Frequently asked questions

There are a lot of misconceptions about hypnotherapy, and here I have answered some of the more common questions that come up. If you have a question that is not addressed here, please do contact me and I’ll gladly answer it if I can.

1. What does hypnosis feel like?

Hypnosis is an individual experience but people generally feel very relaxed. Some people report temporary feelings of heaviness, lightness or even tingling.

2. Is it possible to get stuck in hypnosis?

No. You can come out of hypnosis whenever you want to.  You are in control!

3. Can anyone be hypnotised?

Most people can go into a light trance state and this is usually adequate to achieve most therapeutic goals.

4. Will I lose consciousness?

No. You will be aware of your surroundings and in control at all times. Hypnosis is like daydreaming so you can come back to full awareness at any time.

5. Can hypnotherapy make me do silly things?

You retain ultimate control and can reject any suggestions that are not appropriate, that you do not agree with or you morally object to.

6. How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions required varies according to your individual goal. However, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a fairly short-term therapy and the number of sessions needed will be discussed during your initial consultation.
